Our Story

The Edinburgh Table Company was founded in November 2018 and we are located in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. In that time, we have moved operations from our original workshop at Heatherlie Park to a larger workshop at Linglie Mill, which was originally a weaving mill built in 1894. We build and finish all of our furniture under one roof.

We use only the highest quality timber, sourced exclusively from the Scottish Borders. Each piece of furniture has its own unique character, with knots, minor splits, and discolouration that add to its beauty. Our tables are built to last, and we guarantee them for 3 years against cupping, splitting, and warping.

We invite you to visit our showroom to view our tables in person and meet the people who will build your table. We offer a warm welcome and are confident that you will be impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of our furniture.

We attend various shows during the year to exhibit our products so keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information.

Our Furniture

Our tables add a touch of character and beauty to any home. Every table is unique thanks to the individual characteristics of each piece of wood. We are now exclusively using locally grown and sourced spruce and pine for our standard range. Reclaimed wood was becoming more difficult to source due to high demand which means the provenance was harder to determine. Our locally grown spruce (as well as other softwood varieties) is guaranteed to have come from the Scottish Borders and we feel is a very ethical, ecological and sustainable choice in comparison to reclaimed wood which will have come from overseas. We also make tables from Beech, Sycamore, Ash, Elm, Oak, Scots Pine and Cedar. All of our wood comes from trees that have grown within a 25 mile radius of our workshop as we source it from a local tree surgeon which also means it hasn’t been felled for commercial lumber. We don’t use any exotic or imported wood. Take a look in our shop, our bespoke page or call/email us for further details.

Our tables are the finest traditional style tables you will find on the market and are guaranteed against cupping and warping so there is no need to worry about wobbling plates and wine glasses! The top is fixed to the frame in a way that allows it to ‘float’ so when the boards expand and contract, which they will do with the seasons and environmental conditions, they don’t separate or split the frame. They are carefully filled (with epoxy resin) and sanded, which maintains their features but results in a glass smooth polyx-oil finish.

To compliment the solid timber top you can choose from a classic turned leg, a contemporary tapered leg, a metal leg, A-Frame leg or a modern straight leg. Tables are available in sizes up to 300cm long and in a variety of widths to fit your needs. Each table is finished off with Farrow & Ball period colours and a choice of polyx-oil finishes. As each table is made to order we can create your ideal table which will be fit for use for many years.

The tables in our online shop are all standard sizes with the option to add extra boards to make them wider. We do build a lot of bespoke furniture by commission so if you have specific dimensions in mind for a table or want a bespoke piece of furniture, with drawers and doors for example, please get in touch. We can also restore an existing table if you have a piece that you want to keep using.
